i was looking for help, and this post was named jaywalker help. in my typing out of my question and confusion, i answered my own question.

in answering my question, i also realized that i have been doing my pattern incorrectly, since row 2. ugh... ugh... gah! um... (blame it on the pregnant goldfish brain effect...)

i think i'm ripping.

i was up to the gusset on my socks by the way. almost on the home stretch.

meh.
