why people suck

this is the quilt that my mom won over the weekend at a silent auction. isn't it so fun and beautiful???

quilt my mom won at a silent auction

what kills me is that someone put alot of work into it and donated it to the local youth service bureau for their big fundraiser gala. put an approx price on it of $200. bidding started at $100. at the end of the night, it was one of 15 other items that no one had bid on so they dropped the minimum bid. my mom bid $30 (all she had on her, and did not expect to win the quilt with it) and won it. she loves it and will treat it lovingly however she feels bad that no else one bid on it and that she didn't bid a higher amount.

maybe it's just because i knit so i know what work went into this, but it almost made me cry that no one bid on it and that it only went for $30. :( i wish arts/crafts/creative hobbies were more respected. it makes it hard for me to think of one day donating something of my own. i can't imagine putting tons of work into say, a koigu shawl that just the yarn alone cost $50 and then i put hours of my time into it for it to sell for $25. i know that it's like giving a gift, once it's gone you have to let it go but still...
